The “one who is like yah”

Well for those of you who have not heard the good news.  Lorraine and I had our first baby Thursday September 11th at 7:40am.  We had a little boy and his full name is Micah Brock Jones.  I know it has taken me a while to make this announcement, but lets be honest, adjusting to life with a new baby is no easy task.

Well I am sure, some of you would like to hear much more details than what I just gave.  So here it goes.  Basically, the birthing process for us began at 6am on Wednesday morning, because Lorraine woke up to some pretty regular and strong contractions.  From there we spent the next several hours seeing if they would stop or let up, or continue to go and grow stronger -indicating whether it was time.  After about 6 hours we pretty much decided that it was it, our baby was coming sometime within the next 48 hours.  At this point in the story I must interject a fact that maybe not a lot of you knew, and that is that we were scheduled to have a home-birth using a Mid-wife.  Yes it is true, no hospitals no doctors.  That was our plan, and I am very proud to say that we were able to stick to it.  Back to the story now.  After the first six hours we decided that it was time to call our Mid-wife and our Doula, so that they could come and help us start the birthing process.  They shortly came and stayed with us the entire time (at least our Mid-wife, because our Doula was called to another birth).  All in all, Lorraine was in labor for around 26 hours, active labor for 14 hours, and she pushed for about 3 hours, and all without any medicine or intervention.  I must say she was such a trooper, and I am so very proud of her, because I know how hard it was for her.  After those 26 hours, we had a beautiful boy, who had been desperately trying to meet us.

At birth, Micah weighed 7 pounds and 10 ounces, and was around 20 inches long.  Those are the technical descriptions, but let me tell you that he has been an absolutely sweet boy so far.  He is really mellow, sweet, and healthy as a button.  Thank you to all of you who have been praying for us and for his safe entry into the world.  We can only believe that everything has gone so well because of everyone’s prayers for us and for him.

I will be doing my best to get some picture on here too.  And for those of you who are wondering about the title of this post, that is what Micah name means in Hebrew.  To us he is certainly “the one who is like the Lord,” and we hope that the meaning of this name will mark his life from his birth on.  Blessings!
