The First of Many …

Well tomorrow is an epic day for Sonlight Ministries, and especially Sonlight Bible College – we have our first Graduation. This means that Sonlight Bible College has now been around for five years. This is a pretty amazing thing to consider for the students who were here when it started and for the founding Professors, Lenny Lowe and Warren French. More than that, though, it is a celebration for the whole Sonlight family, because it shows that God is at work in many different ways, with many different people, with many different ages. The future of Haiti is certainly the youth, and so that is why our Academy is so important in all it does, but the “now” of Haiti are the adults, who are in positions to make change possible here and now; and many such men are graduating tomorrow …
All in all, the Senior class of Sonlight Bible College has 8 students. These students represent the originals, the first, the students who have seen vast changes throughout the last five years, and yet still managed to adjust and be successful. I have had the pleasure of teaching these 8 gentlemen in a broad array of classes, and I have to admit that I truly love, respect, and enjoy them; and so consequently, I will miss having them around next year. Three of these 8 gentlemen go to Sonlight Church, and one of them is a Worship Pastor (Archimel). Another one of these three, Hudson, is an elder – while the third one, Choute, is a lawyer in town who faithfully attends Sonlight Church. The other five represent several different local churches in our city, which encourages us as professors that the message of God’s love and redemption that we teach, is not simply contained to one area of the city, but is spreading and permeating churches and Christians throughout Port-de-Paix.
As I said previously, this is a big and exciting day for Sonlight Ministries and Sonlight Bible College, and, frankly, I am just glad that I am able to be a part of it. The students are the main reason we are here in Haiti, and so seeing them finish and succeed is priceless.
