Well there has been some things that have went on since our last post, but nothing too much to speak of. I would say the biggest thing that has happened for Sonlight Ministries is that Roger Alexander had a minor heart attack and was rushed to Port-au-Prince and then Fort Lauderdale for immediate bypass surgery. That was a few weeks ago, and Roger and his wife Norma are still currently in Fort Lauderdale recovering from two different major surgeries. We are hoping that Roger and Norma will be returned to us within a month, but we don’t really know for sure. Please pray for them that the recovery process goes well and that they can come back to Port-de-Paix whenever they are ready.
On another note, we witnessed the first birthday of our son, Micah! The importance of this in our own lives cannot be overstated. To think that we have a one year old is crazy to us, and yet it also feels like it fits too. Micah has been such a little blessing to us, and our last year has been stretching, but overwhelmingly rewarding. We did throw a birthday party for him to, which went great, but if you would like to hear more about please download our September newsletter from the support page of this blog.
Finally, our last note is a note about our students. Kyle has particularly noticed that a majority of his High School are not Christians. This makes his job as their teacher even more important to him. Even though the subjects he teaches are not Bible classes, he realizes that every conversation and every question and answer truly matter to the spiritual lives of these students. He has even had a few of his students admit that they are in state of decision of whether or not the whole Christianity thing is for them. This is huge, and a huge responsibility! There always needs to be a delicate balance of speaking truth without overdoing it; and between having a trusted voice in a student’s life and not. It’s like when Jesus talks about his followers being salt: being over-salty is not necessarily any better than under-salty; in fact, they both seem to leave a bitter or sour taste. Just pray that we, especially Kyle, can be a guiding voice in our student’s life; and particularly pray that we can help lead some of these kids, who are at a decision point to make the decision for life through Christ.
