A New Years Announcement …
Category : Blog
The last few months for us has been pretty crazy as you could probably tell from our previous post, but we are looking forward to what this New Year has to offer. We know that God is going to do amazing things in our lives and that God is doing some pretty amazing things in the lives of our friends. Consequently, we are looking forward to trusting that God will provide for us in many ways.
On that note, we have a very important announcement to make: We are expecting our second child! This is something that I am sure most of our friends and family already know, but we know that there may be others who have not heard the news yet. This news makes this New Year even more exciting, but it also poses some problems in working out certain logistics. We simply ask that you keep these things in prayer.
A November & December to Remember
Category : Blog
Well, it has been a while since I lasted posted on the blog, but not because I haven’t wanted to. My last post was about the craziness we encountered throughout the month of October and our longing for the craziness to end. As it turned out, though, November and December proved to be crazier than October. The only real question is where to begin?
October be Over …

This month has certainly had its interesting share of experiences! From going to a new Haitian church in another city, to the constant power issues that our mission is having, to our failing water pump, and to the extreme heat, October has been quite eventful; and truthfully, we are ready for it to simmer down a little bit.
A few weeks ago one our two large mission generators decided to stop working! Convenient right! Slowly thereafter, the other one started to break down as well. This created a lot of different problems as you can imagine, especially since our lifestyle here still revolves somewhat around the utilization of power.
Just An Update …

Well there has been some things that have went on since our last post, but nothing too much to speak of. I would say the biggest thing that has happened for Sonlight Ministries is that Roger Alexander had a minor heart attack and was rushed to Port-au-Prince and then Fort Lauderdale for immediate bypass surgery. That was a few weeks ago, and Roger and his wife Norma are still currently in Fort Lauderdale recovering from two different major surgeries. We are hoping that Roger and Norma will be returned to us within a month, but we don’t really know for sure. Please pray for them that the recovery process goes well and that they can come back to Port-de-Paix whenever they are ready.
Bondage & the Power of Prayer
Category : Blog
Anyone who has been to Haiti, or have lived here for an extended period of time understand that there is some serious spiritual oppression and bondage at play. For a place that has the potential for such beauty, warmth, and simplicity, it is a place characterized by poverty, disease, hunger, voodoo, and political instability. With this in mind it is easy to want to retreat and leave the problems for someone else, or feel like change is impossible on a micro level without change first on a macro level.
Getting Settled In …
Category : Blog
Well we have been in Haiti for about a week now and we are starting to really feel like we are getting settled back into everything. Today was especially good for that too, because we are able to get our official teaching schedules for the year, and thus be able to officially start looking at and planning our days both considering our teaching needs and considering our taking care of our son needs. I must admit too that it looks like everything is going to work out fabulously.
We’ve Arrived!!!
Category : Blog
Well, it has been a long and tiring summer, but we are officially back to our home here in Haiti. We have to admit that it feels very good to be settling into one place for an extended period of time. Our nomadic ways this summer were much more exhausting than normal, and if we had to guess why we would clearly give the credit to our son. Micah is a great traveler, but nonetheless, traveling with an infant is a whole new ball game …
Going Back to Haiti!!!
Category : Blog
Hey Everyone,
As many of you already know, Lorraine, Micah, and I will be going back to Haiti with Sonlight Ministries in just three days now. The summer has been long, and in many different ways a struggle, and so we are very strongly looking forward to going back to our home in Port-de-Paix and continuing the work that the Lord has called us to …
The First of Many …

Well tomorrow is an epic day for Sonlight Ministries, and especially Sonlight Bible College – we have our first Graduation. This means that Sonlight Bible College has now been around for five years. This is a pretty amazing thing to consider for the students who were here when it started and for the founding Professors, Lenny Lowe and Warren French. More than that, though, it is a celebration for the whole Sonlight family, because it shows that God is at work in many different ways, with many different people, with many different ages. The future of Haiti is certainly the youth, and so that is why our Academy is so important in all it does, but the “now” of Haiti are the adults, who are in positions to make change possible here and now; and many such men are graduating tomorrow …
